Virtual Reality to play a massive role in Online Poker
A virtual reality revolution is on the horizon. With Christmas around the corner, it is expected that by the start of 2017, several million of us will be ‘jacked in’ to an endless world of VR content. In the gambling space, one of the most promising areas of development is in poker, and possibly casinos more generally. One company, Casino-VR.com has already made enormous progress in combing the two technologies and has released software that is open to the public for testing!
Gameplay Footage of Casino VR
We were fortunate enough to test out Casino VR with help from the great guys at TopVR and we were well and truly stunned. While there is definitely progress to be made in the graphics and user experience, simply sitting next to other ‘real’ players was enough to immerse one’s self in the action. What stood out the most was the head tracking technology; if other players were looking at you -you’d know about it – and this made for some slightly uncanny, awkward and memorable experiences. The next step from here would be the integration of eye tracking (which VR headset company Fove, are working hard to achieve), which would add a whole new level of social interaction.
Of course, this type of gameplay is not suitable for the dedicated poker players looking for fast action and multitabling options, but there is an enormous portion of the market that will be excited to experience a life-like casino setting from the comfort of their own home. Popular poker room PKR.com created a multi-million dollar business by taking the 2 dimensional world of poker (as introduced by PokerStars) and developing a thrilling and interactive 3D experience on top. It is likely that we may be seeing the next version of this revolution in the form of Casino VR, and we’re excited to see what’s to come… Watch this space!
At this point in time, there are no VR casinos that accept Bitcoin – but as you can imagine, we’ll be the first to let you know when there is.
